Bert & May

Now I love a good tile and Bert & May is an absolute treasure trove of loveliness, if antique reclaimed artisan tiles are your thing.  If you are looking for something unique and authentic then there are literally thousands of reclaimed tiles to chose from in this warehouse shop in a quiet road in Hackney. They do salvaged flooring too so this really is the place to track down something unique - and if you can't find what you are looking for they can create faithful reproductions on a made to order basis.

More beautiful tiles

I can't resist beautiful tiles.  So thank you decorenvy.co.uk (another favourite blog of mine) for bringing these to my attention. Take a look at the link above for all the pictures and links, but these are my favourites.  Particularly Hally's cafe in Parson's Green. These ones work beautifully against the aged wooden table and mirror.

Moroccan monochrome

I like these morocco inspired tiles from Tons of Tiles.  Called Marrakesh Black Decor they offer an affordable option for an aged eclectic look - at £29.56 per square metre.  They are clever too - they are 33x33cm in size suitable for walls or floors but they are scored to create a traditional 10 x 10 tile, so save the hassle of laying individual small tiles.   Your tiler will thank you.

Mad about the blog

I know there are hundreds of interiors blogs out there, but this one is my absolute fave - it's Mad about the house and is written by Kate Watson-Smyth a journalist specialising in interiors and design.  There are daily finds ranging to the latest fab interiors shops to gorgeous lighting ideas to unusual floor tiling - oh and shades of grey paint - but above all loads of practical advice and input into styling your home.  I drop in each week to take a look.

As well as the '365 Objects of design' feature you'll also find a weekly delve into hot properties on the market (who doesn't like nosey-ing around beautiful homes)

... and there's also a 'Your home' section where you can ask your burning interiors questions and she will gallantly try and point you in the right direction.  So if your new year's resolutions include keeping up to date on current interiors trends, this is one to bookmark.

Glorious homeware from Ugg

According to this The Relaxed Home blog post  Ugg Australia have launched a brand new homewares range.  And it looks gorgeous.  Only thing is that I can't yet find out where to buy them as they don't seem to be appearing on their site yet.  A case of watch this space I think.

PS. Love that pouf though.

Gorgeous rugs from Paul Smith

Paul Smith has created 3 new designs for The Rug Company, to add to his collection. According to their blog 'the CubesUmbra and Peaks rugs reveal Smith's interest in abstract art and architecture, as well as his skill with muted colours in bold graphic prints and cubic forms.'  I just think they look mighty fine.  Take a look for yourself.

Stencil your floors for a whole new look

I loved this post from the Remodelista blog - with some fantastic ideas for floor stencilling. Genius.  A whole new look at a fraction of the cost of new flooring - and when you are bored with it, hey presto, you can sand it and do it again.  Take a look at the full article, but here are some of the looks they found...

More gorgeous encaustic tiles

I love these ceramic tiles from WorkHouse. With more than 200 patterned and unicolour designs to chose from you can mix and match for a totally eclectic style and/or select a mix with a dominant colour to blend with your colour scheme.  Either way, and despite the price tag (£90 per square metre) are gorgeous.

Hand woven rugs and blankets with Scandi style

These beautiful rugs and blankets from Brita Sweden brings craft right up to date.  With their fresh colours and modern geometric designs they blend tradition with irresistible Scandi modernism.  It is also truly a family business: named after the founders’ great grandmother, every piece has the name of another woman in the family.  Available to buy from royaldesign.co.uk

More fabulous floor tiles

This time from Carocim.  Beautiful, decorative and mellow they bring a touch of class to any floor.  Note too the current trend for combining a tiled finish with the warmth of wood.

Flooring to take notice of

Zazous.co.uk do a beautiful range of both authentic encaustic cement tiles and vinyl flooring - both reminiscent of lazy mediterranean sejours.  The former are the pricier choice at c. £170/sq metre, with the vinyl selection coming in at a fraction of the price at £19.99/sq metre.  Neither selection is vast, but they certainly make for eye catching flooring solutions.

Glorious rugs

I've come across this range of rugs from Urban Outfitters online - I think they are fantastic fun and extremely reasonable ranging from £35-£65.  It's not easy to find good rugs that don't cost the earth.

Banksy inspired tiles...

Came across these Banksy beauties the other day and they made me smile.  Not for the faint hearted! Available from www.tonsoftiles.co.uk.
